First United Methodist Church - Lancaster Pa

Engaging, Inspirational, Multigenerational

New Orleans, New Life

Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast on August 29, 2005.  In December 2005, First Church sent a team of three to look into the opportunity to send a summer mission team.  God gave a much bigger vision than that to that original team and to the congregation at the church.  Since 2005, seventeen teams have worked in Jesus’ name to help restore the hope and homes of those affected by the greatest natural disaster the United States has seen.

The Gulf Coast continues to be profoundly affected by the damage and will take years to rebuild.  God continues to lead us to be a vital part of the rebuilding process.  Currently we work with Lighthouse Ministries which was born from the disaster in their backyard.  Due to the massive destruction it was established to serve God throughout the devastated communities of southern Louisiana. We will be the hands and feet of Christ as we minister in the city of New Orleans.

We will convey the love of Jesus through:

v  Gutting and re-construction of homes

v  Church and community construction projects

v  Prayer walks

v  Community outreach events

v  Feeding the homeless in New Orleans
