About Me

Full Name:  Kent E. Kroehler

But Please Call Me: Kent

Position: Senior Pastor

Born where and when: Peckville, PA

Family Facts: Joy and I are both 'preachers kids', and we reared three 'preachers kids'.

Education: Asbury College (B.A.), Asbury Theological Seminary (M.Div.), Wesley Theological Seminary (D.Min.)

How I became a Christian: At a revival service, preached by a very old south Georgia preacher with loose teeth.  God had been working on me for a while, and he used an unlikely person to reach me.

How I ended up at First Church: The Bishop made me do it!  Every year since 1986, our Bishop has appointed me here.

The most important thing I do around here: Help us stay focused on our BHAG (Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal(s)) - to participate with God in the transformation of individuals, our neighborhoods, and our world.

Favorites

Music:  I have ecletic tastes.  My life is marked by great choral music from my glee club and choir experiences.  I love the Kingston Trio, Simon and Garfunkel, ABBA, Josh Groben, Broadway show music and some classics.

Movie: I usually like what I've seen recently, often a great story, like Amazing Grace.

TV Show: NCIS

Food: Steak, salmon, desserts and especially:  a big helping of macaroni and cheese topped by a big helping of beans and franks.

Vacation: Mountains - Smokies, Rockies and Andies (I hope)

Place to eat in Lancaster: Fiorentinos

How I spend my free-time: Travel with Joy, children and grandchildren, coins and more.....

Best book I've read recently: Effectiveness by the Numbers (a stimulating piece on what we use to measures a church's value...)

Nobody knows that I..... got in trouble with the law when I was a teenager.

My vision for First Church: to be a multi-choice, multi-generational community of Christian life, attracting lots of people to its center at Duke and Walnut Street as well as penetrating into the neighborhood and the world.

One way people can pray for me is: To stay focused on the vision of the Kingdom of God here right now and coming!
